The Marvelous Wild World of the Vegetable Garden

The Marvelous Wild World of the Vegetable Garden 2022

7.14

This is the story of a vegetable garden, from the first seeds to the harvest. But this garden is different, because here the gardener has decided to banish pesticides and other chemicals, and to be helped only by discreet workers, the insects. As we dive into the heart of this plant kingdom, we discover thousands of tiny lives that organize themselves as in a micro-society: decomposing insects, recyclers, pollinators, the workers of the garden work to maintain a fragile balance within the vegetable garden. As the plants grow and begin to produce their first vegetables, the incredible interactions between insects and plants help protect the future harvest. But it is also their personal stories that punctuate the life of the garden. Between parades, mutual aid and attempted putsch, the story of the vegetable garden thus takes the form of a true nature tale.

There are ticking time bombs off the coasts of the world, of which the public has hardly been aware: 6,300 wrecks, sunk during the Second World War, have been rusting in the sea for more than 70 years. Researchers estimate the amount of oil remaining in them at up to 15 million tons. What can be done to prevent an oil slick?

Despite the efforts made in recent decades to protect wildlife, the loss of biodiversity in Europe remains alarming. What can be done to protect it? While some advocate "letting nature take its course", the work of numerous ecologists and researchers runs counter to preconceived ideas: according to them, the protection of endangered species often requires, on the contrary, human intervention - provided that it is reasoned and respectful of the environment. Leaving land uncultivated can be counter-productive, as in the case of the Chizé forest in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France, where the cessation of tree-cutting has driven away several species of snake that previously thrived there.
