حين تؤدّي القبلة الأولى للمراهقة "إيل" إلى علاقة رومانسيّة ممنوعة مع أكثر شباب المدرسة الثانويّة جاذبيّة، تُخاطر بعلاقتها مع أعزّ صديق لها.

تدور أحداث الفيلم حول مجموعة من الشباب المراهقين، يجتمعون فى حفلة تخرجهم من المدرسة الثانوية، لكن الأمور تخرج عن السيطرة، وتنقلب الحفلة رأسًا على عقب.

تدور أحداث الفيلم حول (أوليف) الفتاة الجميلة في إحدى المدارس الثانوية، تحاول الارتقاء بمكانتها اﻻجتماعية والمالية وسط كل الطلاب عقب كذبة بيضاء تفوهت بها عن فقدانها لعذريتها، وذلك عن طريق الكذب وترويج اﻹشاعات، وتمر في ذلك بكثير من المواقف المحرجة والكوميدية.

حافلة مدرسة ثانوية تتقطع بها السبل وتتوه في الصحراء؛ الحافلة تحتوي على لاعبي فريق كرة السلة ومدربيهم وفرقة التشجيع. يصبح لزامًا عليهم الدفاع عن أنفسهم ضد الوحش الزاحف؛ وهو وحش ضخم يظهر على الأرض كل ثلاثة وعشرين عاما ليتغذى على اللحم البشري. في ذلك الوقت أحد المزارعيْن وابنه يقرران التصدي بنفسيهما لهذا الوحش والتخلص منه.

يروي الفيلم قصة تشارلي ذاك الفتى المُنعزل في حياته، وبداية أيامه في الثانوية، بعد أن مر بطفولة صعبة، ومتوسطة سيئة، فتى قد عاني من مشاكل في صغره. . مشاكل نفسية أدت إلى انعزاله واصابته بالتوحد، فهو شخصية انطوائية مُنعزلة غير مشهور ودائماً ما يُسخر منه، يخاف من المُشاركة في أي شيء. . ولا يقوى على رد الكلام لمن يتكلم عليه، يكتم غضبة وحزنه بداخله، ولا يخرجه لا لعائلة ولا لأصدقاء، فلا أصدقاء له، ولا يود لعائلته ان تحزن عليه ويقلقهم في مشكلته الخاصة، فيروي جميع ما يحصل له في دفترة الخاص مُخاطباً شخصية خيالية قد رسمها لنفسه في مُخيلته، يتعرف على مجموعة من الأصدقاء المُوشكين على التخرج من الثانوية في سنتهم الأخيرة، ويبدأ شيء فشيء في التغير يقع في حُب فتاة أكبر منه بسنتين ويحاول كتم حبه لها وسرد ما في قلبه في كتابة ما يُريد.

شيزوكو تسوكيشيما، فتاة في الرابعة عشر من عمرها، طالبة في مدرسة موكايهارا الثانوية، تعيش في طوكيو مع والديها أساكو وسيا، وأختها شيهو. شيزوكو دودة كتب وتهوى الكتابة أيضاً، تستعير الكتب دائماً من مكتبة مدرستها الثانوية، وفي أحد المرات لاحظت في بطاقة استعارة الكتاب اسم "سيجي أماساوا"، وقد تكرر هذا الاسم في كثير من الكتب التي استعارتها. وخلال الأيام التالية تتعرف على شاب من المدرسة يتضح لاحقا أنه هو سيجي. ، تتعرف شيزوكو على سيجي أكثر ويصبحان صديقين، وقد كانت بالصدفة قد تعرفت على جده الذي يملك محلاً للأثريات والساعات، تكتشف شيزوكو أن سيجي يهوى صناعة آلة الكمان، وهو جاد في هوايته لدرجة أنه سيسافر شهرين إلى إيطاليا لتعلم هذه الصناعة، وهنا تبدأ شيزوكو بمقارنة نفسها بسيجي، وتخوض مرحلة فكرية تحاول فيها أن تقرر مستقبلها، ولأنها مهتمة بالكتابة تقرر أن تبدأ بالتأليف، ولذلك جهزت نفسها واستعارت كثيرا من الكتب.
