Barney stále obrazně sleduje motiv stvoření. Na biologické úrovni tedy film reprezentuje fázi vývoje plodu, kdy dochází k rozdělení podle pohlaví. Podle Barneyho se živý systém takovému rozdělení brání a usiluje o zachování rovnováhy, jakou představoval Cremaster 1. Vyprávění putuje v čase – od roku 1977, kdy byl popraven vrah Gary Gilmore, k roku 1893, kdy na obří celoamerické výstavě v Chicagu vystoupil kouzelník Houdini.

Osou příběhu a zároveň jeho postavou, sbírající a distribuující energii, je stavba Chrysler Building, jedna z ikon Manhattanu. Sám Barney tu vystupuje jako Učedník. Do role svého protihráče Architekta pozval minimalistického sochaře Richarda Serru. Společně oživují zednářský mýtus o stavbě Šalamounova chrámu a jeho staviteli Hiramu Abiffovi, který faustovsky mířil k vědomostem z nejhlubších tajemství vesmíru.
