Na šílené pouti plné humoru, děsů a dobrodružství se tak musí samotářský podivín vyrovnat se svými strachy a konečně vzít život do vlastních rukou.

Tento ryze mužský náhled ale inspiruje casanovu a brilantního novináře „Catche“, aby Barbaru sbalil a předvedl jí, co vlastně muži chtějí. Samozřejmě, že se oba mýlí.
Hollywoodskému producentovi Alexanderu Meyerheimovi (Noel Coward) rychle dochází trpělivost. Jeho scénárista Richard Benson (William Holden) už přes 19 týdnů pracuje na novém filmu, a stále není s to ho dokončit. Benson si ve skutečnosti užívá života v luxusním pronajatém pařížském apartmánu, flámuje, nezřízeně popíjí, navštěvuje kasina, ale ze scénáře zatím nenapsal ani čárku. Za dva dny je ovšem termín odevzdání a producent Meyerheim si scénář ve městě pod Eiffelovou věží vyzvedne osobně! Richard si proto najme písařku, půvabnou Miss Simpson (Audrey Hepburn), a hodlá jí scénář nadiktovat z hlavy. Je ostatně už zvyklý takhle pracovat vždy, když jde opravdu do tuhého. Tentokrát ho však napadají jen samé nesmysly a vymezený čas se zatím neúprosně krátí. Tady už pomůže jen jediné - nechat pracovat svou fantazii a celou filmovou zápletku si ve dvou prožít na vlastní kůži.
Komiksy se sice u nás ani v osvícených 60. letech neuváděly, ale filmaři aspoň měli povoleno je parodovat. A diváci se skvěle bavili, i když původní předlohy neznali. Podnikavé paní docentce, jejímu muži (a posléze i krávě průzkumnici) se totiž zhmotní sny a jejich hrdinové vstoupí do našeho běžného světa. Samozřejmě tu tropí jednu neplechu za druhou, zejména průzračně záporný ničema ničí vše, co mu stojí v cestě. Dobře napsaná i režírovaná komedie s výtečnými hereckými výkony, které dokazují, že pro dosažení komického efektu není třeba se pitvořit.
