CBGB følger historien om Hilly Kristals New York klub fra idéen om et mødested for Country, Bluegrass og Blues (CBGB) og til, hvad det endte med at blive: fødestedet for undergrundsrock and roll og punk. Da Kristal havde besvær med at booke countrybands til sin klub på Bowery, åbnede han dørene for andre typer rockmusik. Kristal forlangte kun én ting af de bands, han bookede: De måtte kun spille original musik. Ikke noget med top 40 eller covernumre. Det motto levede han efter – støt kunstneren for enhver pris. Hilly Kristal blev ironisk nok kendt som punkens godfather. Han gav chancen til bands som Blondie, Television, Ramones, Talking Heads, Dead Boys og The Police.

Blondie is the first of two TV series based on the comic strip of the same name. It first aired on January 4, 1957, on NBC. Although Penny Singleton had starred in most of the Blondie movies, producers chose Pamela Britton for the title role, with Arthur Lake playing the role of Dagwood Bumstead as he had in the Blondie movie series. A pilot episode was filmed in 1954 with Hal Le Roy as Dagwood opposite Britton's Blondie. The DVD for the 1957 version of Blondie was later released but only includes the first three episodes.
