I maj 1945 forsøger amerikanske soldater at erobre en japansk klippeskrænt. Midt i dette helvede finder man en soldat, der ikke bærer våben. Hans navn er Desmond Doss, en samarit der dedikeret kaster sig ud i krigens rædsler. Ikke for at dræbe men for at redde sårede soldaters liv. Desmond Doss er en kristen mand med særligt fokus på det femte bud (også midt i et slag), og ”Du må ikke slå ihjel” bliver en personlig overbevisning, der står i stærk kontrast til de uhyrlige hændelser på lærredet.

Den oprørske og engang lovende Jæger pilot Jake Pentecost's far gav sit liv for at redde menneskeheden. Jake har opgivet sin træning og lever i en kriminel underverden. Men da en endnu større og langt mere ustoppelig trussel truer vores byer og bringer verden på randen af sammenbrud, får han en sidste chance af sin søster, som leder en ny generation af modige piloter, som er vokset op i krigens skygge. Deres eneste håb er at stå sammen i en global modstandsbevægelse og tage kampen op mod de kræfter, som ønsker at udslette os. Jake får følgeskab af den piloten Lambert og den 15-årige Jaeger hacker Amara, som bliver hans nye familie.

Vi befinder os i 1500-tallets Japan. Bønderne i en lille by er trætte af hele tiden at blive overfaldet og plyndret af banditter. Byens vise mænd råder dem til at rekruttere nogle samuraier - professionelle krigere - der kan beskytte dem mod overfaldene. Det varer ikke længe, før syv meget forskellige samuraier har stillet sig til disposition.

Efter fire år i koma vågner lejemorderen Sorte Mamba alias Bruden op på hospitalet. Nu tæller kun én ting for hende. Nemlig at få hævn over sin chef Bill og sine fire forræderiske lejemorder-kolleger, der forsøgte at slagte hende på hendes bryllupsdag. Hævntogtet bringer Bruden til Japan, hvor hun går i skarp træning, inden hun krydser klinger med sin gamle veninde O-Ren Ishii og dennes hær af håndlangere.

Ryōmaden is the 49th NHK Taiga drama. It was shown on NHK from January 3 to November 28, 2010 spanning 48 episodes. It has been announced that the series will be aired in several other countries, for example Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
