Die beiden japanischen Trucker Gun und Goro kommen hungrig in eine Stadt. Dort essen sie in einem kleinen Restaurant, in dem die junge Witwe Tampopo Ramen – die traditionelle japanische Nudelsuppe – kocht und serviert. Allerdings laufen die Geschäfte dort nicht sonderlich gut und so beschließt das ungleiche Trucker-Paar – der Eine ist noch ziemlich jung; der Andere schon älter, dafür aber erfahrener – der Besitzerin des Ladens und ihrer Familie zu helfen. Gemeinsam wollen sie den Laden zum führenden Restaurant für Ramen machen. Doch dazu muss zunächst einmal die Kunst der Nudelsuppe erlernt werden. Um dies zu erreichen, spionieren die beiden findigen Trucker nicht nur die Rezepte der Konkurrenz mit allerlei Tricks aus, sondern verbünden sich auch mit einigen erstaunlichen Leuten.
