Sein knapper Sieg gegen die russische Kampfmaschine Ivan Drago hat Box-Weltmeister Rocky Balboa eine schwere Hirnschädigung gekostet, die ihn zum Rücktritt zwingt. Aber es kommt noch schlimmer: Durch eine Fehlspekulation seines Steuerberaters ist er plötzlich mit einem Schlag pleite. Zusammen mit seiner Familie zieht Rocky notgedrungen wieder zurück in die Slums, wo er sich mit der Box-Schule seines verstorbenen Trainers über Wasser hält. Entgegen aller Ratschläge, geht der wagemutige Jungspund Bhuvan auf das verführerische Angebot ein.
