Lucky Gagin (Robert Montgomery) llega, en la víspera de una fiesta popular, a un pueblo mexicano de la frontera, con la misión de encontrar a un tal Frank Hugo (Fred Clark), de quien quiere vengarse. Un agente del FBI (Art Smith) también está tras la pista del misterioso Hugo.
