دههٔ ۱۹۳۰ مأموران اطلاعاتی به باستان‌شناس و ماجراجوی آمريکايی، «اينديانا جونز» (فورد)، می گويند که «هيتلر» در پی يافتن "صندوق مقدس" گم شده است تا از آن برای مقاصد سلطه جويانه اش استفاده کند. آنان از «جونز» می خواهند تا صندوق را پيدا و به آمريکا بياورد.
