کوبریک این فیلم را بعد از تبعید خودخواسته به انگلستان، در سال 1971 می سازد. اما ساختار فیلم آنقدر بی پرده به بیان مفاهیم آن پرداخته بود، که ناگزیر مدتی فیلم توقیف بود(حدود 11 سال) تا شاید تمدن کمی جلوتر برود و مردم بزرگتر شوند و بتوانند چنین فیلمهایی را هم ببینند. نویسنده كتاب پرتقال كوكی (انتونی برگس) در زمان تالیف كتاب در مالزی زندگی میكرد. همسر او توسط چهار خلافكار امریكایی مضروب شده بود و این خود قسمتی از مضمون داستان او شد. در زبان مالزیایی كلمه "Orang" بمعنی مرد میباشد (همچنین این كلمه قسمتی از كلمه "Orangutan" كه نمیه دوم "Hutan" بمعنی جنگل می باشد بنابراین نام این فیلم بجای كلمه مسطلح clockwork fruit به جای clockwork man یا مرد كوكی نیز میباشد كه دقیقا آلكس در انتهای داستان به آن تبدیل میشود. نقد این فیلم كار اسانی نمیباشد. حتی بعد از نزدیک به چهل سال این فیلم هنوز به مشكلات جامعه اشاره میكند. تا به حال شاید هزاران صفحه مطلب در مورد این فیلم نوشته شده و واقعا توصیف این فیلم در چند جمله کار سختی است

داسنان این فیلم در مورد چهار زن بزهکار است که پس از آزادی از زندان تصمیم می گیرند انتقام خود را از مردان هوسران جامعه بگیرند، آن هم با گذاشتن تله سر راهشان و اخاذی از آن ها برای گذراندن زندگی. هر چهار کاراکتر زن فیلم به شدت سر خورده و تنها هستند…توسط تهمینه میلانی نوشته ساخته و کارگردانی شده.محمد نیک بین نیز تهیه کننده است.از بازیگرانی که در این فیلم به نقش آفرینی پرداخته اند میتوان به مهناز افشار، لادن مستوفی، السا فیروزآذر، بهاره افشاری، شهره لرستانی، اکبر عبدی. رضا عطاران، حامد بهداد، محمدرضا شریفی نیا ،سیاوش تهمورث اشاره کرد.این فیلم در ژانر خانوادگی، اجتماعی، درام و کمدی ساخته شده است.به‌طور کلی فیلم تسویه حساب از جهت افراط در فمنیسم مورد انتقادهای شدید است. تقلید کردن زنان از حرکات مردها و این که مردها با تمام قدرت پس از اصابت ضربۀ زنان به ان‌ها فریاد میکشند از ضعیف‌ترین نقاط این فیلم یه شمار می‌آید
