1940-luvun Kiinassa avuton pikkurikollinen Sing tekee kaikkensa päästäkseen pahamaineisen Axe-jengin jäseneksi. Yrittäessään ryöstää parturinliikkeen Sing törmää rähjäistä kaupunginosaa hallitsevaan jengiin, jonka jäsenet ovat valepukuisia kung fu -mestareita. Singin hölmöily johtaa lopulta taisteluun Axen ja mestareiden välillä.
