When Mats stumbles upon a pair of pants containing an unlimited amount of money, everything changes. Now he can buy everything he ever wanted, not knowing that powerful forces are tracking him down.

It is the last day of school for Christian and his younger sister Sophie. They are heading to a party at his friend Trina. High school graduation is just around the corner and after the freedom and future. But behind the idyllic facade lurks tragedy and secrets. That evening Sophie commits suicide.

What does a desperate mayor of culture do when he is handed a stack of millions with instructions to make it a success? What does a cultural city consultant do when he thinks all projects are equally good, and ends up spending all the money without anyone getting anything? What does a rejected artist do when he wants to create a cultural city wall? What does an alternative artist group do when they think it's all petty bourgeois crap?

Fauli plays himself as the overlooked film director who never gets recognition. He is frustrated to a maniacal degree that everyone seems to win prizes which in his opinion rightfully belongs to him. Thus, he looks up Thomas Vinterberg and trashes him for winning this year's Natsværmerpris (awarded by the Natfilm Festival).

The early 1990s: 300,000 Danes are out of work. Viggo, a machinist with two grown children, is silent about feelings, scared he'll lose his job, loud about the value of trade unionism, interested in his pet fish, and argumentative at dinner. His wife Oda puts up with his moods and works on family genealogy. When Viggo is laid off, he becomes a fish out of water, hardly looking for work, starting a garden, and taking up with Karen, a polished but unhappy widow. He lies to his wife about a union training and goes to Mallorca with Karen. When she stops the affair, Viggo ends up in a psychiatric ward and must figure out what's really important in his life and in his character
