המדבר המצרי 1923. ריק אוקונל, הרפתקן אמריקני נועז המשרת בלגיון הזרים הצרפתי, חושף במקרה את הריסות עיר המתים הפרעונית אמונאפטרה. אוולין, ספרנית המומחית לתרבות מצרים, ואחיה ג'ונתן, משכנעים את ריק שיוביל אותם לעיר האגדית, שם טמון עושר עצום, שיסייע לפענוח חידות רבות. אך במקום שורצת קללה עתיקה - כשכוהן הדת אימהוטפ התאהב בפילגשו של פרעה, הטילו עליו הרשויות קללה מחרידה: גופו החנוט יישאר בחיים לנצח ויסבול עינויים נוראיים. חבורת ההרפתקנים מגיעה לעיר המתים, שם מגיח אימהוטפ מקברו ומתחיל להטיל הרס עליהם.

נסיך מצרי לומד על זהותו העברית, ומנסה להוציא לחופשי את בני עמו... במצריים לפני ימים רבים, מלך מצרים פרעה סתי, מורה שכל התינוקות העברים ממן זכר יושלכו לייאור ויוטבעו. אם הנואשת מניחה את בנה בסל נצרים בייאור. כשהיא סומכת על אלוהי העברים שיציל אותו. הסל נמצא ע"י בת המלוכה, ומשה נלקח לארמון וגודל כאח ליורש העצר רעמסס. שנים אחרי האחים שגודלים בעושר ואושר נפרדים ברגע שמשה מזהה את מורשתו האמיתית ונקרא ע"י אלוהים למשימה של שחרור העברים מהעבדות.

הישרדות המין האנושי תלויה בבן האנוש בק, אשר מתחייב להציל את העולם ואהובתו. לשם כך, הוא מגייס לצידו את הורוס אל רב עוצמה, במטרה להילחם באל חסר הרחמים שגזל את כס המלכות של מצרים.

רידלי סקוט מביים את סיפור חייו של משה רבנו, אשר גדל בחצר פרעה כאחיו של הנסיך רעמסס. עם התבגרותו, מגלה משה את מוצאו וייעודו האמתי, ומחליט לעזוב את חצר המלוכה. בגלות מתגלה אליו האל בדמותו של ילד המטיל עליו את המשימה לשחרר את עם ישראל ממצרים. משה שב למצרים ומתעמת עם רעמסס, אשר מסרב לשחרר את עמו של משה. עם בואן של המכות, העימות בין שני העמים יגיע לנקודת שיא.

הסרט מבוסס על הסיפור המופלא מהתנ"ך, של יוסף וחלומותיו. להבדיל מ-"נסיך מצריים", הסרט כמעט ולא מחסיר מהסיפור פרטים או משנה את העלילה המקורית. הוא בעצם מספר איך עם ישראל הגיע בכלל למצרים. יוסף הוא אח למחצה של עשרת בניהם של יעקב ולאה שנולד מרחל, אשתו השנייה. יעקב אוהב אותו יותר מעשרת האחרים, מרוב אהבת יעקב ליוסף תופר לו יעקב כותונת יפה, וזה מרים את הקנאה של האחים ביוסף, שלא נדבר על התנשאות יוסף מעל אחיו בחלומותיו. האחים מחליטים להיפטר מיוסף, ומוכרים אותו לעבדות ואז...

The Mummy: The Animated Series is an animated television series produced by Universal Animation Studios to capitalize on the success of The Mummy. It premiered on Kids' WB! On the The WB network on September 29, 2001. It is set sometime between 1920 and 1934. The characters and plot were derived from the film, but the series could not replicate its success, efforts to make it consistent with real-world features were almost non-existent as, for example, Lake Titicaca is described as both puma-head shaped and as being found below the ruins of Macchu Picchu. The poor quality of the animation disappointed fans of the special effects-laden movie. It was retooled and rechristened The Mummy: Secrets of the Medjai for its second season, which began on February 15, 2003. Although the quality is considered to have improved between the first and second seasons, the show failed to find an audience and was cancelled on June 7, 2003. Reruns of the show aired on Toon Disney. The entire series was released on DVD in America R1 in three volumes on July 22, 2008.
