Kína történetének egyik legvéresebb korszaka ez: a birodalom hét királyságra szakadt, a különböző uralkodók évszázadok óta vívnak elkeseredett küzdelmet a hatalomért, a halál és a szenvedés a mindennapi élet részévé vált. A hét királyság közül a Csin birodalom a legerősebb, királya az egész országot meg akarja hódítani, hogy ő lehessen a Kínai Birodalom első császára. A többi uralkodó orgyilkosok seregét küldi ellene, de mindeddig senkinek sem sikerült a közelébe férkőznie.A merénylők közül senki nem jelent akkora veszélyt, mint a király ellen szövetkezett három legendás harcos: Törött Kard, Repülő Hó és Végtelen Ég. Csin királya hatalmat, tonnányi aranyat és személyes meghallgatást ígér annak a harcosnak, aki legyőzi három félelmetes ellenfelét, csakhogy ez szinte lehetetlen feladat, tíz év alatt senkinek sem sikerült.

Időszámításunk előtt a III. században, Kínában járunk. Ying Zheng, a Qin birodalom királya, egész Kínát egyesíteni akarja a hatalma alatt. Ebben a minden erkölcsi értékrendet elvesztett, kegyetlen és kaotikus világban - döbben rá a szereplőkkel együtt a néző - az egyetlen kapaszkodó az egyén számára a szeretet, amelynek ereje a halált is képes legyőzni.

In the Warring States Period of ancient China (475–221 BCE), Shin and Hyou are war-orphans in the kingdom of Qin. They dream of one day proving themselves on the battlefield. One day, however, Hyou is taken to the palace by a minister. Winding up on the losing side of a power-struggle, Hyou manages to return to the village, barely alive. A Step into the Past is a 2001 Hong Kong television series produced by TVB and based on Huang Yi's novel of the same Chinese title. The series tells the story of a 21st-century Hong Kong VIPPU officer who travels back in time to the Warring States period of ancient China. He is involved in a number of important historical events that leads to the first unification of China under the Qin Dynasty. The series' first original broadcast ran from 15 October to 7 December 2001 on the TVB Jade network in Hong Kong.
