Sagan er eins og flestir vita byggð á bókum rithöfundarins James Dashner um Thomas sem vaknaði einn daginn algjörlega minnislaus um fortíð sína og var ásamt hóp af öðrum minnislausum strákum staddur í miðju einhvers konar völundarhúss sem engin leið virtist út úr nema bíða um leið bana. Í þessum öðrum kafla sögunnar heldur ævintýrið áfram og snýst um að finna út úr því hverjir standa á bak við völundarhúsið og bæði tilgang þess og þeirra. Eftir að hafa sloppið úr völundarhúsinu standa þau Thomas og félagar frammi fyrir nýjum áskorunum þegar þau þurfa að komast að því hvað vakir fyrir leiðtogum WCKD um leið og þau verða að sigrast á eyðilandinu „The Scorch“ þar sem hver ógnin á fætur annarri bíður þeirra.

A team of intrepid contestants tackle a series of ingenious games and fiendish challenges in a giant fantasy world, with the aim of collecting as many crystals as possible to win a prize in the Crystal Dome.

The Crystal Maze was a British game show, produced by Chatsworth Television and shown on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom between 15 February 1990 and 10 August 1995. The series is set in "The Crystal Maze", which features four different "zones" set in various periods of time and space. A team of six contestants take part in a series of challenges in order to win "time crystals". Each crystal gives the team five seconds of time inside "The Crystal Dome", the centrepiece of the maze where the contestants take part in their final challenge.

A game show following contestants as they travel through a massive maze, answering multiple-choice questions along the way. The maze consists of rooms filled with money; and the further in they go, the bigger the prize. But in order to collect the price, however, contestants must remember what they learned along the way as they find their way out.
