強豪ひしめく春高バレー宮城県予選を勝ち上がり、優勝候補のひとつとされていた兵庫県代表・稲荷崎高校を破って3回戦に進出した烏野高校。対戦相手となる音駒高校はかつて烏野とライバル関係にあり、一時は交流が減ったものの日向たちが入部してからは再び合宿や練習試合で共に汗を流す良き仲間となっていた。その戦いは校名についた「カラス」と「ネコ」の名前から「ゴミ捨て場の決戦」と呼ばれる。プレースタイルも真逆で、超攻撃型の烏野に対し、音駒は「つなぎ」をモットーにする守りのチーム。ついに現メンバーでの公式戦初対決に臨むことになった彼らは、全国大会の舞台で白熱の試合を繰り広げる。

主将である赤木剛憲を筆頭に、宮城リョータ、桜木花道、流川楓、三井寿ら神奈川県立湘北高校バスケ部のメンバーたちは「全国制覇」を目標に掲げ、バスケと向き合っていく。

普段と違う早起きした朝、 クラブと一緒にわくわくした気持ちをゴルフバッグに詰めて、 今日も一日を始めよう。 主人公の美波はゴルフを始めて間もない初心者。 遥と彩花はそんな美波を見守りつつ、 それぞれのスタンスでゴルフを楽しみ、 その楽しさを美波に伝えていく。 学校も違えば好みも違う三人。 だけどその三人がゴルフを通じて、 それぞれの世界をもっと色鮮やかに変えていく。 これはそんな物語の1ページ

中学生の日向翔陽は、ふとしたことからバレーボールに惹（ひ）かれるように。3年生になった彼は、学校にバレーボール部員が自分以外にいないという状態から何とかメンバーをそろえて公式戦に挑む。しかし、「コート上の王様」と称される影山飛雄が在籍する北川第一に敗北。中学最初で最後の公式戦がつらい結果に終わり悔しさを抱きながら、日向は烏野高校に入学。バレーボール部に入ろうとするが、中学の公式戦で自分を完膚なきまでにたたきのめした影山と再会する。

春の高校バレー宮城県予選、決勝戦ーー 。 準決勝で青葉城西を下した烏野が、春高出場を懸けた一戦に挑む。 対するは超高校級エース・牛島若利を擁する絶対王者、白鳥沢。 烏野は試合序盤から牛島の強烈なスパイクに翻弄され、攻勢に転じようにも天童の鋭いブロックに阻まれてしまう。 これは超えられない壁なのか？ 反撃のカギを握るのは、ブロックの要・月島。 その冷静かつ執拗なディフェンスで、日向、影山も勢いを増していくが……。 両チーム、コンセプトは違えども激しく打ち合う姿勢は一緒。 死闘の果て、最後に笑うのはどっちだ!?

影山と切磋琢磨（せっさたくま）することでモチベーションもスキルもアップし、彼とのコンビネーションも良くなってきた日向。インターハイに出場した二人をはじめとする烏野高校バレー部は、常波高校を破って伊達工業高校と対戦することに。伊達工業が繰り出す鉄壁のブロックに苦戦を強いられながらも激闘の末に勝ち進んだ彼らは、県内で屈指の実力を誇る及川徹が所属する青葉城西高校と対峙（たいじ）するが……。

湘北は、インターハイ予選において、ベスト16に進出。次の対戦相手は、赤木と木暮の中学時代のバスケ仲間の伍代友和と安西の大学監督時代の教え子・川崎一美が属する古豪・津久武。 3試合連続無得点退場で苛立っている花道は、津久武のルーキーである南郷洸一郎と晴子のことで揉めた上、晴子との交際もかけて、南郷とも争うことになった。

インターハイ予選決勝リーグで海南大附属高校に敗れた湘北バスケット部。その原因が自分にあると思い込んだ花道は髪型を坊主頭にした[注 1]。 残り2試合に勝つべく、練習中の湘北は、緑風高校バスケット部のマネージャーである藤沢恵里とその主将であるマイケル沖田に練習試合の申し込みをされた。安西は、海南戦のことを引きずっている湘北メンバーに刺激を与えるべく、練習試合を了承。練習試合が始まったが、主将の赤木が海南戦での負傷により、スタメンから外れた湘北は緑風に押される。 一度は赤木の一喝から流れを掴む湘北だったが、緑風の作戦に翻弄され、再び劣勢に立たされ、さらに木暮が体を張ったプレイを見せるも、直後に意識を失い倒れる。しかし、彼のこのプレイが試合の流れを変えることになるのであった。

神奈川県立湘北高校に入学した赤い髪の不良少年・桜木花道は、188㎝の長身と抜群の身体能力を見そめられ、バスケットボール部主将・赤木剛憲の妹である晴子にバスケット部への入部を薦められる。晴子に一目惚れした花道は、バスケットボールの全くの初心者であるにもかかわらず、彼女目当てに入部。その後、地道な練習や試合を通じて徐々にバスケットの面白さに目覚め、その才能の芽を急速に開花させる。湘北バスケ部には、監督である安西光義のもと、主将の赤木剛憲と副主将の木暮公延らに加え、スーパールーキーといわれる流川楓らが加入。さらに、前年度のインターハイ県予選ベスト4である陵南高校との練習試合後には、暴力事件を起こして入院をしていた宮城リョータや、バスケ部から離れていた三井寿も復帰する。 夏のインターハイ制覇を目指す湘北は神奈川県予選を順調に勝ち進み、決勝リーグへの進出を懸けてインターハイ常連校の翔陽高校と対戦し勝利する。続く決勝リーグの初戦で「神奈川の王者」といわれる強豪校・海南大附属高校と激戦を繰り広げるも、惜敗。続いて前年度のインターハイ県予選ベスト4である武里高校と宿敵の陵南を破り準優勝。優勝した海南大附属とともにインターハイ出場を果たす。 広島県で行われるインターハイのトーナメント1回戦で、湘北は大阪府代表校の豊玉高校と対戦し、勝利。2回戦では、前年度までのインターハイで3連覇を果たした秋田県代表校の山王工業高校と対戦する。一時は20点以上の差をつけられるが、驚異的な粘りで反撃する。花道は負傷した背中の痛みに耐えながらプレーを続け、試合終了間際のジャンプシュートによる決勝点で湘北を逆転勝利に導く。しかし、全てを出し切った湘北は、続く3回戦で愛知県代表校の愛和学院高校との対戦で、ウソのようにボロ負けした。 インターハイ後、3年生の赤木と木暮が引退。新キャプテンに宮城リョータが就任し、赤木晴子を新たにマネージャーとして迎えるなど、チームは冬の選抜に向けて新体制となる。流川は全日本ジュニアの代表に選ばれる。花道はリハビリを続けながら、再びコートに立てる時を待つ。
