昭和40年代の浅草。大学を中退後、たけし(柳楽優弥)は「ストリップとお笑いの殿堂」と言われる浅草フランス座に転がり込み、「幻の浅草芸人」と呼ばれていた深見千三郎(大泉洋)に弟子入りする。東八郎や萩本欽一など、お茶の間を席巻していた大人気芸人を育てた深見の下で、たけしは大成することを目指し笑いの修行に勤しんでいた。しかしテレビが普及するにつれ、演芸場の客入りは減る一方だった。

徳永は、お笑いコンビ「スパークス」としてデビューを果たすものの、一向に売れる気配がなかった。ある日、営業に出掛けた熱海の花火大会で４歳年上の神谷と知り合う。徳永はお笑いコンビ「あほんだら」としてステージに立った神谷が見せた型破りな漫才に衝撃を受ける。そこで徳永が神谷に弟子入りを願い出る。

笑いに人生を捧げるツチヤタカユキは毎日気が狂うほどにネタを考える日々を過ごしていた。念願叶ってお笑い劇場の小屋付き作家見習いになるも、愚直で不器用なツチヤは他人には理解されず淘汰されてしまう。失望していた彼を救ったのはある芸人のラジオ番組だった。番組にネタや大喜利の回答を送るハガキ職人として再びお笑いに人生をかけていた矢先、「東京に来て一緒にお笑いやろう」と憧れの芸人からラジオ番組を通して声がかかった。そんなツチヤは東京で必死に馴染もうとするが…。

漫才協会に所属する芸人たちの悲喜こもごもを追ったドキュメンタリーとして、本作が初監督作品となる塙宣之のメガホンで映画化。

She reunites with Yomogi Takahashi, a childhood friend who once formed the comedy duo "Konamonzu" with her when they were little. Before long, they find themselves putting together a routine at a park like they did before, in order to enter a local shopping area's contest. At that moment, a mysterious girl calls out to them.

Shonan Theater, also known as...Distress Theater. One day, comedian Tokiura (Yoshihiko Aramaki) comes to this theater where comedians with no future or problems are banished to the island. On stage, the duo Amagen, consisting of Genta (Chin Naisho) and Amano (Mizuki Umetsu), is performing a skit. However, there were only two customers, and only the voice of the skit echoed hollowly.
