Avant la Nuit

Yanis, a young Kabyl man, is leaving for Paris the following day. He goes to the nearby village to tie up loose ends. There he learns of the death of a childhood friend and meets another at the funeral. A mishap in a café turns his last day in the backwaters of an earthy and soggy Algeria into a road movie, first desperate, then thoughtful and melancholic.

When Ali and Leila visit their mother, who has just been discharged from hospital, they have some revelations to make. They are shocked to discover that she is now living with Elyo, a medical assistance robot. Lunch with this strange machine soon turns into a family feud. Elyo, sensing her owner is in trouble, will do anything to protect her, whatever the cost.
