A young couple's announcement of their engagement to their friends is followed by a series of interactions and conflicts that forces everyone to reflect on their lives.

Mado wakes up in the morning finding all the people disappeared. Hearing a strong typhoon might strike, everyone has escaped the disaster. She checks her school, but no one is there. She meets her classmate, Fujii, unexpectedly. Fujii asks Mado to find a shelter together. He doesn't want to leave her alone. Both start looking around to see if anyone's left behind: An empty theatre, a movie is still running on the screen. A young girl stands by a desolated pool. A strip show theater with a retired stripper. An old man brushes his shoe in a bowling center continuously. Both guys search everywhere. And finally in the heavy rain, they find shelter in a factory. This is a factory where Mado's father had died in.

Storytelling Guy writes about his intimate relationships in his novels, even if it hurts those around him. Hotel Girl wants him to write about her, and lives with Night Shift Guy to provide material. Traveling Girl was in one of Storytelling Guy's novels, and has returned after a long absence.

December 30th, 2017. Two years before the Tokyo Olympics, due to a revision of the Constitution, a National Defense Force is created in Japan and it starts military operations. In an incineration plant, a dog goes lost, but when Tani goes looking for him, she finds nothing. In the plant, Yanais takes down the Christmas decorations and replaces them with the ones for New Year. Gou, addicted to survival games, comes to the plant during the night and starts playing video games with Ken, even if it is his day off. In the meantime, Adachi is just watching their game to kill time. However, all these men share similar problems: pregnancy, adultery, family issues and a friend who died in the war. Meanwhile, Tani, who is troubled with her immoral relationship with Adachi, begins to feel that her father, who was the plant’s manager and is supposed to be dead, seems to be around somehow.

Brooding outsider Mikiro catches Sotoko just as she reaches a breaking point in her claustrophobic rural life. Their encounter introduces an eroticism with a violent edge that threatens to slash apart her toxic marriage with the abusive Atsuya and his web of small town corruption.

Random street attacks have been occurring in a local industrial city. No similarities among the victims, no clues for a motive or the culprit's next move except for sightings of a large figure in a raincoat. On her way home, Nami encounters an attack in progess. She sees the killer eye to eye and is attacked. Tsukishima saves her in a nick of time which brings them closer. In the same city, Detective Shintaro Matsuyama is after the killer responsible for the attacks. He sees a similarity to an unsolved street attack in which his daughter was killer 15 years ago. The city becomes depressed as people are afraid of the attacks and those who try to bring justice. Nami's life grows gloomy along with her symptoms of PTSD, despite falling for Tsukishima. Then she discovers his past. Shintaro becomes emotional with revenge and begins to derail from his police work. The killer is on the loose again.

A real estate agent, Shinji Sawaguchi finds a fallen meteorite by accident. On the next day, his missing sister Shiori shows up for the first time in ten years. Shinji can't help being agitated by her sudden return. On the other hand, unusual events start happening in his life, and her threatening melody spreads in the town. Including Shinji's fiancé Maki, the development of characters centers around Shiori's mysterious presence felt. Shiori's identity is hidden, and Shinji gets involved in a peculiar situation.

Hiro, an unpopular comedian, lives with his girlfriend Kano, an editor. Hiro starts to distance himself from Kano with fewer live appearances and Satoyama, a seasoned comedian, drags him around. Kano is given a picture book during an interview with an author, Kaminuma. The tragedy of a princess' death in the book illustrate the troubled marriage between Kaminuma and his wife, Mizu. After reading the book, Kano imagines a happy ending by pretending Hiro as the King and herself as the princess. Fate changes when the picture book and reality collide... A love story for the new century.

Mizuki Kiyama's short animation utilizes a paint on glass technique to render a young girl's visit to a neighborhood sento (bath house) with her mother with dazzling sensuous wonder. Evoking childish fascination at daily rituals, this quotidian act amidst feminine intimacy becomes a space of otherworldly fantasy.

Fired from his part-time job in a restaurant kitchen for absenteeism, rookie boxer Tamura has a lot to be angry and frustrated about in his life. But things start to change when he’s approached at the gym by the artist Hattori, who wants to use him as the new model for the manga character Yellow Kid. Yellow Kid first appeared in an American comic in the late 19th century, and Hattori revived him as an older character a century later.

Yoshinaga, a real-estate agent, has a young female customer one day. She asks him to take her to the apartment where she used to live. When he plays a videotape left in that cavant room which shows some signs of its ex-resident, Yoshinaga gets lost in another fantastic world. After a while, Yoshinaga and the girl come back to their respective daily lives... A pop, colorful, yet at times a heartaching road movie, which leads to elsewhere.

All of a sudden, the city is empty with people. Detective Hideyuki Matsunaga is investigating a kidnapping case. Hideyuki's wife Eri is expecting a baby, but right after the delivery, the baby is kidnapped. For the sake of his baby, Hideyuki desperately tries to recover his broken relation with his wife, but he cannot get a clue. He starts thinking the baby was spirited away by a ghost. He is seized with fear. He looks up to the sky, there is an unearthly aurora swaying to and fro.

Summer is coming to an end. A little girl on the beach remembers the days spent giggling and dancing with her friend. The goodbyes and memories intertwine in a mesh of sorrow and joy.

A barber, Kouichi, has married another barber, Aya, and lives in her parents' house. As Aya's parents run a barber-shop, her brother, Satoru. and father, Akira are also barbers. This shop was opened up by Akira, taken over by Aya and Kouichi, and supported together by Satoru who is going to get married soon. On a few days before Satoru's wedding, Kouichi recieves one mail.
