The action takes place in the Polish countryside in the second half of the 19th century. The main character is a few months old Staś, son of the blacksmith Józef and Małgorzata, from whose perspective we see the conflict of his parents with the local organist.

The film, which is a reconstruction of the life and work of Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, known under the pseudonym Witkacy, was produced especially on the occasion of the artist's 100th birthday. During the feast, a conflict arises between Stanisław and Zebrzydowski, Anna's competitor. Stanisław is wounded in a duel. Anna bandages him in her room. There is a rapprochement between them. Stanisław leaves for the Vatican to obtain a dispensation from the Pope for a wedding with Anna. Meanwhile, Anna repents, misses, prays and refuses to eat. Not a single word is spoken in the movie. The mood is built by Karłowicz's music.
