V roku 1974 oxfordský profesor Joseph Coupland osloví mladého Briana McNeila, aby mu asistoval ako kameraman a nafilmoval experiment, ktorý chce vykonať na pacientke Jane Harperovej s pomocou svojich študentov, Krissi Daltonovou a Harrym Abramsom.
