Film se dogaja leta 1907, v kostumskih časih, v premožni, aristoktratski uppsalski družini, okej, bolj dinastiji, Fanny (Pernilla Alwin) in Alexander (Bertil Guve) pa sta 10-letni brat in 8-letna sestra, ki se kopljeta v relativno liberalni, četudi afektirani idili razširjene, epske družine, dokler njunega očeta (Allan Edwall), gledališkega impresarija in igralca, ne pokoplje infarkt in dokler se njuna mati (Ewa Froling), gledališka zvezdnica, ne poroči s strogim, puritanskim, sadističnim pastorjem (Jan Malmsjö), ki prebudi strahove in duhove, sram in molk, krike in šepetanja, hudičeva očesa in deviške vrelce, kačja jajca in divje jagode, sedme pečate in prizore iz zakonskega življenja. Pastor je mizantropska pošast, ki bi oba otroka najraje izstradal in ki ustvari srhljivo, tesnobno, senzualno, ekscesno, introspektivno, pravljično klimo, v kateri bi v Bergmana zrasel vsak otrok, celo Bog – z blazno tremo.

Tomaž in Anica imata doma probleme. Ne smeta zamujati, ne smeta brati za mizo, prati si morata vrat in ušesa. Ko imata vsega dovolj zbežita od doma. Pridruži se jima tudi Pika. Še prvo noč doživijo strašno nevihto, pred katero se umaknejo v zapuščeno hišo, kjer srečajo prodajalca čarobnih past, s pomočjo katerih Pika hodi po stropu in zidovih. Doživljajo različne avanture, od tega da si skušajo s petjem zaslužiti nekaj denarja, do tega da skoraj pristanejo v zaporu. Se bodo vrnili domov?

Snapphanar is a Swedish miniseries which aired in three parts on Sveriges Television during Christmas 2006, directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein. The historical drama is about the Snapphane peasant rebel movement which fought against the Swedish rule of Scania in the 17th century. The "Snapphanar" was a rebellion people, who fought secretly for Denmark during 1660-1700. The miniseries were criticised by historians due to a perceived lack of historical accuracy. The Scanian nationalist attitudes portrayed in the series did not exist in the 17th century, and the term snapphane, which is used for self-identification in the series, was in fact a derogatory term used by Swedes.
