Filmaren Helena Nygren fascineras av greven och slottet och får lov att filma på villkor att hon helt ikläder sig rollen som grevens sällskapsdam. Under ett års tid återvänder Nygren i flera omgångar för att ta del av greve Magnus och hans tjänstefolks liv.
På släktgodset Rönneberga firar godsägaren sin 70-årsdag. Det är dags för hans lilla sondotter att gå till sängs, men först får hon dra upp den stora golvklockan, Kulla.

They were communities where two separate worlds existed side by side: the poor worked as domestic servants, while the nation’s wealthiest families enjoyed a lifestyle of luxury, and aristocrats ruled over their servants as they had done for a thousand years.
