　　一群外地工程人员来到了一个山区小村并作短暂停留，村民们觉得很好奇，但对客人还算友好。其中一个工程师，对村里的一切都挺有兴趣，他跟随着一个小孩，饶有兴致地打听村里的情况，窥视着小村的一举一动。工程师对两件事情比较关注，一是一个生病的老妇人，一为在山上独自挖坑的村民。他每每向小孩打听老妇人的病情，并因常常到山上接收电话而与坑底下的村民聊天。直到某一天事情发生了变化：坑塌陷，把村民埋在地下；医生抢救被活埋的村民时顺便去医治病危的老妇人。 老妇人最终死去，工程师怅然若失，把以前挖坑村民送给他的一根人骨头扔到小河里顺流而下。

1980年，一名十几岁的男孩因为人质危机而逃离伊朗的动乱，只能在美国面对更多的敌意。 他决心要适应，他加入了学校挣扎的摔跤队伍。

尹麦德（沙哈布·侯赛尼 Shahab Hosseini 饰）是学校里教授文学的老师，同时，他和妻子蕾娜（塔兰涅·阿里多斯蒂 Taraneh Alidoosti 饰）一起在剧团里表演话剧，夫妻两人感情十分深厚。某日，两人所住的房子成为了危楼，随时都有倒塌的危险，无奈之下，尹麦德和蕾娜只得临时找了另一个住所，匆匆入住。某日，蕾娜提前回到家中，不想遭到了陌生男子的袭击晕倒在浴室之中，愤怒的尹麦德根据罪犯遗漏的车钥匙找到了一辆小货车，一路尾随至面包店。最终，尹麦德找到了罪魁祸首巴巴克（巴巴克·卡里米 Babak Karimi 饰），却发现他当时亦只是一念之差走错了路，并且对自己的所作所为充满了愧疚。尹麦德要求巴巴克在自己的妻子和儿子面前坦白罪行，没想到却酿成了所有人都无法承受的惨痛后果。

Hezar Dastan is considered one of the most important and most influential works of art in the history of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.
