柯尔波特是早期美国流行乐坛最著名的作曲家，从二十年代后期即已在娱乐圈崭露头角，在三十年代的"黄金时代"更有不少名曲出自他的手笔。然而波特的祖父一直不同意他走作曲家的路，甚至在波特成名后仍加以排斥。他在壮年的事业高峰期1937年坠马受伤，双腿不利于行，对他的身心造成甚大影响。幸而波特克服困扰，继续发挥其作曲才华，并扬名好莱坞。 　　无论是导演迈克尔．柯蒂兹的处理手法，或是卡里．格兰特的表演技巧，都只是平平而已。这部音乐传记片最值得欣赏的还是多位著名歌星密集亮相，演唱多首悦耳动听的插曲，让人了解到柯尔波特为何能够在美国乐坛大放异彩。2004年的影片《小可爱》讲述的也是这位音乐家的故事。

音乐剧的现场舞台录音，改编自梦工厂动画 1998 年的电影，改编自摩西的圣经故事，从他成为埃及王子到带领以色列子民走出埃及的最终命运。
